Off Babel – Episode 1

Episode 1

“Oh brother! thank you so much.

Kai, we were so blessed, we can’t repay you Sir

only Jesus oh, God bless you!”

Hmmmmn… The very words that haunted them, shattered and scattered the whole crew!

Sunday Egalantinrin is the son of Egalantinrin Akanmu, a mechanic and Mrs Shade Egalantinrin, a bread seller. He’s their only son with three daughters before him, three behind him and he loves singing!

They lived in Alakasade village in Okanlawonlo town in the outskirts of Mobawondena. The village was the poorest, far behind civilization and unknown to anyone outside this village no matter how it is described…

The only resource in the village is their river, where they bathe, drink from and also use in cooking, excreting and washing, river Kaiki.

The village is 5hours by foot to the next village where they can get a transport to the town and 4 and a half hours by bicycle which is the only other means of transport in the village owned by their Village head, Chief Eganlantinrin, Akanmu’s father and Sunday’s grandfather.

Each families in the village queue to book it for use. There are 40 families in the village, sometimes it might take at least a month to go round for everyone.

Chief Eganlantinrin brought in Christianity to the village as he was also a mechanic who had received the gospel in the town.

Though, not all the villagers were given to the new religion as some still chose to worship stones and figurines yet he ensured his household followed that pathway, his son Akanmu took over from him as the chief when he died. Education has always been what the chief desired but life and location did not give him the chance and made Akanmu his son promise him at his deathbed to send his grandson to school at all cost.
